About us

We are a registered charity cat rescue based in Southern Tasmania. Our main goal is to give cats and kittens in need a second chance by finding them safe, loving forever homes. Every cat we rehome is desexed, microchipped, flea and worm treated, and vaccinated before adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready to begin their new life.

Beyond rehoming, we also focus on education. We actively encourage responsible cat ownership and containment practices, helping to keep both cats and Tasmania’s native wildlife safe and well.

Our foster network is at the heart of what we do. A team of dedicated carers welcomes cats and kittens into their homes, providing care under our guidance and support. This means our cats grow up in a real home environment — socialised with people and often other pets — making the transition into their forever family smoother.

You’ll often see us out in the community too. We take part in events such as Bunnings Mornington adoption days, local markets, and other happenings around Southern Tasmania. These events not only help raise vital funds through our Birch Merch items, but also give us the chance to connect with people and spread the word about cat welfare.

As a completely volunteer-run organisation, we don’t receive government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of our community. Adoptions, donations, sponsorships, and fundraising are what make it possible for us to keep going — and every bit of support helps us save more lives.

Our team

The Birchgrove team consists entirely of unpaid volunteers dedicated to helping cats and kittens in need. We're fortunate to have around 80 individuals engaging in various roles, including the management team, charity board, foster carers, shelter work, transport, events, and more.
